Copy Cave of forgotten sound dreams

Willem Tanke has visionary flashes, in the shape of bolts of electricity from head to toes. One of these flashes occurred after seeing Werner Herzog’s documentary film Cave of Forgotten Dreams, in which an about 30.000 years old flute made out of the bone of a vulture is shown. The flash consisted of a prehistorian flutist from the cave and Olivier Messiaen imitating the same bird, in the region of the Ardèche in southern France. Hence he made a piece called Forgotten Dreams - for Hariprasad Chaurasia, Olivier Messiaen and the flutist from the Chauvet Cave  He sent this piece to Bennie Maupin, who played the bass clarinet on Bitches Brew and responded as follows: “I totally enjoyed listening to your piece and will listen again. Very unique and haunting from start to finish.” Consequently, Bennie Maupin and Willem Tanke are now preparing a project called Cave of Forgotten Sound Dreams, after the movie by Werner Herzog. Mike Garson, who played the piano on many of David Bowie’s albums participates in this project in the most inspiring way. With Willem Tanke he made an album for two piano’s, of which Red Waves - rivalling the wildness of Aladdin Sane is a part. Together they contribute to creating a new kind of music, in which differences of cultural background, race and religion are archetypally surpassed by their awareness of the prehistorian musician in the Chauvet Cave.
